Monday, July 5 2010... First Day

Hello all our fans:

(We have two, that I know of.) Anyway, we got off to a late start. Doug, kindly, helped us pack the car. I was really worried that we didn't have enough room, but it all fit. We have to do (the packing ) all over again tomorrow.

We made a total of five times, BB, and it seemed we picked out the worst truck stops to stop at, while passing up much better looking ones. Sarah didn't want to stop at the normal state rest stops.

About the third TS we saw gambling machines, Video Poker, and so Sarah had to put money in the nearest one. Her $10 went in and after losing $5 ...in five seconds, she wanted to "cash" out. So she got her receipt from the machine and took it to the register where the young clerk promptly told her, "We do not give cash back. You have to take it out in merchandise."
Sarah was dumbfounded and told the clerk that she wanted to see the manager. She said, also, that the store policy was posted all over the store . It wasn't. After waiting forever the beligerent guy showed up saying, "No way were we going to get any money back. The machines are here for entertainment, only." To make this long story shorter. We didn't get the money and Sarah was so angry she wanted to just walk out. So, I with a little cooler head, went and got two bottles of water @ $1.79 and an ice cream and went to the counter...paid an extra seven cents... and the girl said I had to sign the paper receipt Sarah got from the machine...So I thought and thought and signed it...Donald Duck.

I have never been this far out on I-IO before. We saw a lot of desert and oil rigs and oil pumps. They also have a lot of the wind generators, like in CA.

We are going to the excerciser room tomorrow morning, early. Sarah gets up every day at 5:00 A.M. This should be the good beginning of a new day. See ya.

  1. Barely over the horizon, and already nearly involved in a fist fight with truck stop employees, who are about 2 rungs below carnival workers. By the time you get to Missouri, you will probably be wanted fugitives. Be sure to look at the photo essay of the big departure. Not since the Hindenburg left its moorings has a more momentous launch been witnessed by mortal man.
